Grenache Noir

2008 Grenache Santa Barbara County

2008 Grenache Santa Barbara County

Grenache is of course more familiar, but the current 2008 Grenache is a clear departure from the style of the preceding vintage, primarily again because of the evolving fruit source from the Estelle vineyard.  While some of the underlying flavors may be similar, the density and tongue coating texture of this wine are even more typical of the full throttle Tre Anelli and Consilience style.   The usual currant, black cherry and raisin flavors are complemented with a touch of black pepper and serve as a great second course wine.

2007 Grenache Rodney Shull Vineyard

2007 Grenache Rodney Shull Vineyard

Consilience’s current release of Rodney Shull Grenache aged 45 months in barrel and is ready to drink now.  Though it is difficult to resist, be sure to wait about a half an hour after popping the cork to allow this well-aged beauty to open up.  The nose and palate show kirsch, black plum, coffee and spice with hints of rose petals.  As a result of its nearly 4 years in barrel the wine has flavors of vanilla, brûlée topping and caramel with hints of smoke.   Versatile and delicious, Consilience’s Grenache is kind of the Swiss Army knife of wine.  It can be served room temperature, or slightly chilled as a refreshing summer day wine yet is full-bodied enough to complement many types of foods.  From the simple like burgers and burritos, to the sublime like pork tenderloin with Oaxacan molé sauce, Garam Masala crusted chicken with figs or venison with pan-roasted butternut squash and braised shallots – Grenache’s food-friendliness shines.  Take a bottle with you today, and make dinner at home feel more like Date Night.

2010 Grenache Santa Barbara County

2010 Grenache Santa Barbara County

Known by many names - Garnacha, Abudante, Alicante, Elegante, Rousillon Tinto and Tocai Rosso - Grenache is one of the most widely grown grape varieties in the world – and for good reason.  Grenache grows well in warm climates (like the Rhone in France, many parts of Spain and our very own Central Coast region) and produces wines with beautiful berry flavors, soft tannins and subtle spice characteristics.  If you are patient enough to let Tre Anelli’s Grenache breathe, you’ll be rewarded with a wine that changes and develops in the glass with inviting aromas of cedar and briar fruit that lead to heady flavors of ripe raspberry, blackberry and hints of pepper.  It pairs well with an incredibly wide variety of foods including grilled lamb chops, Santa Maria style tri-tip and or good ole smoked pork ribs.  So fire up the barbeque and open a bottle of Tre Anelli Grenache!
