2008 Mourvedre Santa Barbara County

Like the Grenache, the 2008 Mourvedre takes flavor queues from the previous vintage and dials up the intensity scale far enough to stand up hair on the back of your neck.  Dark berry, chocolate and leathery flavors are bound together with a firm tannin structure that will reach their peak after another year or so in bottle, though if you’re like us we usually can’t wait that long.  Enjoy while sitting down.

2005 Mourvedre Central Coast

2005 Mourvedre Central Coast

In case you’re wondering, there are at least three accepted ways to pronounce this grape, so go ahead and live free.  All are accepted here at Tre Anelli.  There is also more than one opinion about the heritage of this grape, but suffice to say that we like the Spanish story, and we’re sticking with it.  In lesser hands this grape could produce an angular wine, but it does quite well when taken care of at the winemaking level.  One often talks of fruit flavors describing a wine, and while those all exist here; there is an interesting overtone of tobacco, tar, black olive and spice that makes this wine stand out among the masses.  Someone even described tasting a little pomegranate at the end.  What do you do with a wine like this you might ask?  Introduce it to family and friends like you know all about it.   Let this wine help make you the legend that you are destined to be.
