2007 Pinot Grigio Riserva

2007 Pinot Grigio Riserva

Okay, so you and your significant other have finished the last of the crisp, refreshing 2006 Tre Anelli Pinot Grigio from Santa Barbara County and you loved it.  However, now you both have dinner on your minds and you’d like to kick it up a notch with something a little more sumptuous in style.  Hmmmm…..  Well, not to be presumptuous, but may we suggest this Tre Anelli Pinot Grigio – Riserva.  A combination of some barrel and malo-lactic fermentation with just the right amount of barrel aging in older French oak create a rich wine with comparable strong acidity and conspicuous tropical fruit characteristics. It begs for a plate of fettuccine alfredo, the grilled halibut filet with mango salsa, coconut battered shrimp, or simply a mixed greens salad with goat cheese, pears, and glazed walnuts.  Need we say more?

2006 Pinot Grigio Santa Barbara County

If you think about it there are very few situations in life where you can use the words mutant and pinecone in the same sentence.  But so it goes when learning about Pinot Grigio, you find that the grape is thought to be a mutant white wine clone of the glamorously popular Pinot Noir, and somehow the shape of the grape clusters reminded the French of a pinecone, or “Pinot”.   Known as Pinot Grigio in northeastern Italy, the clones grown around California are also often known by this name and tend to produce a refreshing, crisp, flinty and fruity wine like those of Italy, but with just a little more stuffing.  Goes well with friends.
