Nebbiolo

2011 Nebbiolo Santa Barbara County

2011 Nebbiolo Santa Barbara County

The Nebbiolo grape originates in Italy’s Piedmont region where fog blankets the rolling hills just as it does in the Santa Ynez Valley. Such cool-climate conditions are a key to producing the finest of Italian wines. Though Tre Anelli’s 2011 vintage leans toward classic Nebbiolo style with brighter acidity, you will still be graced with soft, subtle fruity tannins as in previous years.  And, in true Tre Anelli fashion, this vintage will embrace your palate as a fruit-forward red wine—expect notes of tart blackberry and sweet anise on the nose, and lush black cherry across your palate. Pour yourself a glass, and compliment it with something simple like caprese salad with sweet heirloom tomatoes and rich creamy burrata!

2012 Nebbiolo Santa Barbara County

2012 Nebbiolo Santa Barbara County

If you've ever tasted Barolo or Barbarasco, then you've tasted Nebbiolo.  It's a fussy grape to grow well, usually requiring a vineyard located somwhere susceptible to fog and heat. Cooling wind doesn't hurt either. It's aged for 15 months in neutral French oak barrels, softening it up a bit but retaining its basic character. While predominantly comprised of Nebbiolo, with a touch of Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is great with pizza or pasta, but shines with bigger, slower-cooked meat dishes like lamb shanks or pork roast. It's a great wine for the winter.
