2006 Syrah Great Oaks Vineyard

Winemaker Notes

Much like the perfect "little black dress" that every woman has in her wardobe that can be glammed up with high heels or dressed down with sandals, our Great Oaks Syrah is an incredibly versitile wine, equally perfect for casual food on the patio with old friends of candlelit gourmet dinners with your significant other. True to our prior vintages of Great Oaks, this one has rich and deep fruit and spice characteristics. Blackberry jam blueberry, Bing cherry and pomegranate combine with hints of baking spices and dark chocolate to tantalize your mouth with a long, lucious progression of flavors. Pair it with honey balsamic glazed lamb chops, filet mignon topped with goat cheese and port cherry reduction, bacon wrapped dates or just a simple bowl of chili topped with cheddar.

Varietal Characteristics

Syrah can be a very versatile Rhone varietal, generally having a medium to heavy body, branded with blackberry tones. Depending on the area it is grown, it can also have pepper flavors, making it an excellent compliment to a steak.

Vineyard Source

Great Oaks Vineyard is on Roblar Avenue in Santa Ynez (just near Bridlewood Estate Winery). This small vineyard gets foggy mornings and long warm days, perfect for the ripening of Syrah.
