Winemaker Notes

Originally from Spain, Tempranillo is the grape used to make the complex red wines of the Rioja region and is now grown in many parts of the world in including Argentina, Chile, New Zealand and right here in California.  Tre Anelli’s Tempranillo has aromas of cigar box and leather that lead to flavors of dark berries, plum and baking spices with dusty tannins and a lingering finish.  Pair it with classic Spanish-style tapas dishes like pork empanadas, braised chorizo, croquetas with shrimp and Manchego cheese, or garlic-rubbed tuna steaks topped with Serrano ham.   Enjoy a taste of Spain without ever leaving home!

Varietal Characteristics

Tempranillo makes a soft chocolaty dark fruit flavored wine with many tones of cassis and muddled blueberries. Because of the low acidity it makes a nice sipping wine.

Vineyard Source

We sourced our 2010 Tempranillo from the Estelle Vineyard in the Happy Canyon AVA, a warm climate area of the Santa Ynez Valley.  This vineyard site is optimal for the Italian grape allowing full flavor development.
